Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said giving permission for Bt brinjal will hit India's age old farming system. Bt brinjal will not only affect human health adversely but will also cast ill-effects on environment.

Govt Pumps Millions For potable water transportation
The State Government has accorded sanction of Rs. one crore 50 lakh five thousand to solve drinking water problem prevailing in districts of Rajgarh, Shajapur and Khandwa districts. Out of the sanctioned amount, a sum of Rs. 49 lakh 50 thousand has been released to these three districts as initial installment.
As per the break up, Rs. 24 lakh 50 thousand have been allotted to Rajgarh Collector. Of this, an amount of Rs. ten lakh would be further allocated to Biora, eight lakh to Khujner and Rs. six lakh 50 thousand to Machalpur. Similarly, out of Rs. 19 lakh 75 thousand allocated to Shajapur district, Rs. seven lakh 50 thousand to civic body of Maxi, Rs. one lakh 25 thousand to Soyatkala, Rs. six lakh to Badagaon and Rs. five lakh to civic body of Barod. Moreover, Rs. five lakh 25 thousand have been allotted for civic body Mundi in Khandwa district.

Industrialist will help CM to fulfill seven resolves
Prominent industrialists of the state gave a number of suggestions to the Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan with regard to fulfilling his seven resolves for transforming the state into golden Madhya Pradesh. In this connection, Federation of Madhya Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry gave a presentation before the Chief Minister at the Mantralaya today. On this occasion, the Chief Secretary, Shri Rakesh Sahni, office-bearers and members of the federation and senior administrative officers included in the standing work group were also present.
The Chief Minister Shri Chouhan lauded the federation's endeavour to help realise the priorities of the state government in respect of rapid growth of the state. He said that this reflects the concern of the industrialists for state's development and welfare of its people. He assured the federation that necessary steps would be initiated after examining the various suggestions which were put forth during the presentation.
Shri Chouhan said that in order to achieve the goal of golden Madhya Pradesh, it was necessary to hold interaction at every level. Constant interaction with industrialists too would be maintained, he asserted. The Chief Minister said that the members of the standing work group constituted to achieve the objectives of seven priorities would hold discussions with the federation with regard to suggestions given in the presentation.
Earlier, President of the federation, Shri Ranjit Vitthaldas said that the chamber and its members are keenly desirous of becoming meaningful partners in the development process of the state. He expressed the confidence that the suggestions given in the presentation would be useful to boost the process of development of the state.
Federation Secretary, Shri Pratap Verma gave the presentation. Several suggestions with regard to energy conservation under the infrastructure development, contract farming for making agriculture a profitable occupation, bringing down mother and infant mortality rate in health sector and continuous process of rural development were highlighted in the presentation.

466 hand pumps to be sunk, 150 wells to be dug
Funds to the tune of Rs four crore 62 lakh will be made available under Conservation-cum-Development Scheme for providing drinking water facility in the areas predominant by Saharia and Baiga primitive tribes during the year 2008-09. The state government has instructed the concerning Agencies that the work of selection of places, where hand pumps or wells are to be dug, through the Gram Sabha.As per instructions issued by Commissioner Tribal Development Shri Jaideep Govind, Rs three crore 49 lakh 50 thousand will be provided for sinking 466 hand pumps at the rate of Rs 75 thousand per hand pump in Saharia predominant areas. A target has been set for digging 150 wells in the areas predominant by Baiga predominant areas. For this purpose a budged of Rs one crore 12 lakh 50 thousand is being released to Baiga Development Agency. Each well will cost Rs 75 thousand.
It may be mentioned that during the year 2007-08, funds to the tune of Rs once crore five lakh were provided for ensuring drinking water facilities in areas predominant by Saharia and Baiga primitive tribes. Out of these funds, Rs 15 lakh were allocated for sinking 30 hand pumps in Saharia areas and Rs 90 lakh for digging 150 wells in Baiga areas. The state government has also issued instructions for making the progress reports of the fund utilisation within a week.

Ordinance would give sagar university central status
New Delhi, Jan 9 The government will issue an ordinance to create 12 new central universities, it was announced here Friday.
'This is being done because the bill to create the universities could not be passed in parliament (in the session that concluded last month),' Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here Friday.
He was briefing reporters after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The new universities will be established in Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram said.
In addition, the Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, the Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh and the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University at Srinagar in Uttarakhand would be converted into central universities, the minister said.
These institutions currently function as state universities.
'The proposed ordinance would contain all the provisions of the Central Universities Bill, 2008 pending in the Lok Sabha, with such changes as may be necessary to implement the accepted recommendations of the parliamentary standing committee, which include, among others, dropping of the conversion of Goa University into a central university,' Chidambaram said.
The conversion of Goa University was included in the bill on a specific request of the state government.
'However, the state government subsequently said the issue had been discussed by the various segments of the society in the state and their elected representatives, including members of parliament, and they had come to the conclusion that conversion of Goa University would not be in the interest of the state,' the minister pointed out.
